High-fashion shoppers and streetwear afficionados alike, ready yourselves: the Swedish lifestyle label Axel Arigato has joined forces with the British luxury brand Mulberry on a limited-edition collection of ready-to-wear, bags, footwear and accessories, launching today.
The exclusive range brings together Axel Arigato’s effortless brand of Scandi minimalism and Mulberry’s timeless, British classicism, in a wear-forever collaboration that draws on both the Mulberry archives and pop-culture hits from the last 50 years.
“We’re delighted to announce our collaboration with Axel Arigato, a brand that shares our values of community and creativity,” says Thierry Andretta, Mulberry’s CEO. “Iconic elements of our Mulberry DNA and archives have been reinterpreted in a collection with sustainability at its core.” Max Svärdh, Axel Arigato’s co-founder, commented that it was “an exciting chapter in Axel Arigato’s story to forge a collaboration of this scale with a long-established brand such as Mulberry. Our aim is to bring youthful, percussive energy which informs our design language by reinterpreting Mulberry’s heritage silhouettes.”
We’re particularly enamored with the bags, which are inspired by three archival Mulberry designs. The first, a black leather tote, plays on the scale of Mulberry’s ‘Oversized Bayswater’, the largest version of the brand’s original, iconic bag. The ‘Top Handle’ bag reworks the ‘Maddison’ silhouette, while the ‘Shoulder’ bag, a contemporary evening piece, is a riff on the much-loved ‘Westbourne’. The bags are available in a selection of bold colourways, from vibrant emerald green and bright azure blue to classic black.
The range also includes split-colour trenches (perfect for springtime dressing) as well as relaxed-fit denim and embroidered varsity jackets in sophisticated, neutral tones. The capsule also includes Axel Arigato’s cult ‘Area’ trainers, now adorned with Mulberry’s signature postman’s lock and a custom strap.
The collection respects both Mulberry’s ‘Made to Last’ ethos and Axel Arigato’s approach to responsible design. All the bags are produced in the UK at Mulberry’s carbon-neutral Somerset factories with environmentally accredited leather, while all cotton used is certified organic.
“Although founded in Sweden, since its inception Axel Arigato has been particularly welcomed by the UK,” says Albin Johansson, Axel Arigato’s co-founder. “To launch a collaboration with Mulberry, a brand firmly embedded in British fashion history, feels like a naturally intuitive partnership to roll out.” It’s safe to say this collection is set to be a sell-out – shop our favorites from the range below…
