Since stepping down as a senior member of the royal family, the Duchess of Sussex has been having more fun with her style. She debuted a super-straight Y2k hairstyle earlier this week, and last night she was pictured out wearing a candy pink linen short suit.
Meghan – who joined her husband Prince Harry to watch an LA Lakers basketball game – wore her summery two-piece by Los Angeles-based brand Staud with a simple white t-shirt, nude heels and gold jewelery. The brand is a firm favorite within the fashion crowd and is known for its playful designs and statement bags.
Her breezy ensemble feels a far cry from her style during her time as a working royal, where she typically wore more muted tones and subdued colours. She revealed in her docuseries Meghan & Harry that she stuck to neutral shades so that she wouldn’t stand out.
“Most of the time that I was in the UK, I rarely wore color,” she explained. “There was thought in that. To my understanding, you can’t ever wear the same color as Her Majesty if there’s a group event, but then you also shouldn’t be wearing the same color as one of the other, more senior members of the family. So I was like, well what’s a color that they’ll probably never wear? Camel? Beige? White?”
She continued: “So, I wore a lot of muted tones, but it was also so I could just blend in. Like, I’m not trying to stand out here. So there’s no version of me joining this family and trying to not do everything I could to fit in. I don’t want to embarrass the family.”
After stepping away from the royal family in 2020, Meghan’s wardrobe has become much more vivid – such as the bold red Carolina Herrera gown that she wore to the 2021 Salute To Freedom Gala. We look forward to seeing what she’ll wear next.
